Everything you need to know before booking
Do I need any experience to take a discovery flight?
None at all! Discovery flights are designed for complete beginners. Your certified flight instructor handles takeoff and landing while teaching you the basics in the air. By the end of your hour, you'll have actually flown the airplane yourself.
Is it safe?
Absolutely. You'll fly with a certified flight instructor (CFI) who has dual controls and can take over at any moment. Our aircraft are meticulously maintained by our in-house team of 4 FAA-certified A&P mechanics. Discovery flights are one of the safest ways to experience aviation.
What happens if the weather is bad?
Safety comes first in aviation. If weather conditions aren't suitable for flying, we'll reschedule your flight at no additional charge. We'll find a day with perfect flying conditions so you get the best possible experience.
What will I actually do during the flight?
You'll sit in the pilot's seat, take the controls, and fly the airplane. You'll practice basic maneuvers like climbs, descents, and turns over Saylorville Lake, then enjoy a scenic loop around downtown Des Moines. Your instructor guides you through everything.
Can I bring someone to watch?
Due to aircraft weight limits, it's just you and your instructor in the plane. However, friends and family are welcome to wait at our facility, watch you take off and land, and be there to celebrate when you get back!
